Programme Thesis
The FRIAS Fellowship Programmes fund early-career and senior researchers to pursue ambitious, independent research projects at the University of Freiburg, providing dedicated time, financial support, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme exists to attract outstanding international scholars, foster cross-disciplinary innovation, and strengthen Freiburg's research environment by hosting fellows who can contribute to its vibrant intellectual community.
Selection Criteria
- Hold a completed PhD (all tracks).
- Early Career: ≤8 years postdoctoral experience, ≥4 peer-reviewed publications since Jan 2022, ≥6 months research/study abroad.
- Senior: ≥8 years postdoctoral experience, ≥10 peer-reviewed publications since Jan 2020, demonstrated international research experience.
- Sustainable Governance Senior (Africa): ≥8 years postdoctoral experience, ≥5 publications since Jan 2017, based at an African institution, Master's/PhD earned in Africa, Letter of Cooperation from a University of Freiburg professor, research in Humanities/Social Sciences on Sustainable Governance.
- Outstanding research proposal (all tracks).
- Interdisciplinary potential and fit with FRIAS community.
- Track record of independent research and publication.
