Programme Thesis
The FRIAS Early Career Fellowship Programme funds postdoctoral researchers from any discipline and nationality to spend 4-10 months at the University of Freiburg, enabling them to focus entirely on a self-defined research project within an interdisciplinary, international community. It exists to foster cross-disciplinary communication and provide access to the university's resources and networks, supporting early-career scholars in advancing their research.
Selection Criteria
- Completed doctoral degree (PhD) at time of application.
- Maximum of 8 years of post-doctoral experience.
- At least 4 peer-reviewed publications since 1 January 2022.
- At least 6 months of research or study experience at academic institutions in a country different from the country of first academic degree.
- Challenging and innovative research project of top academic quality.
- Strictly merit-based selection; expected success rate ~5%.
- Full-time presence at FRIAS during fellowship period is mandatory.
- Applications from any discipline that can be supported at the University of Freiburg; alignment with university research strengths is encouraged.
- Required materials: online form (abstract, layman's abstract, ethical issue table, motivation statement), project proposal (max 3000 words, 4 graphs), CV (tabular, mandatory template), publication list (max 8, with 4 peer-reviewed post-2022), PhD diploma, and for experimental scientists: letter of support from host lab and experiment sketch/timetable.
