The EIC Accelerator provides non-dilutive grant funding (up to €2.5M) and equity investment to high-risk, deep-tech startups developing breakthrough innovations with EU market-creating potential. It exists to bridge the funding gap for early-stage ventures that cannot attract private capital alone, particularly in strategic areas like AI and biotech.

Eligibility: SME registered in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country (or planning to incorporate before grant signature); technology must be 'deep tech' with a clear innovation step beyond state-of-the-art; proof-of-concept validated. Scoring rubric (out of 5): 1) Breakthrough/Game-changing nature (technology, market, business model) – 2 pts; 2) Market potential and EU impact (scalability, job creation, strategic autonomy) – 1.5 pts; 3) Team and execution capability – 1 pt; 4) Risk assessment and mitigation – 0.5 pts. Reviewer priorities: clear differentiation from existing solutions, credible path to market (including pilot with named pharma partner), strong IP strategy, and founder's ability to execute.

Typical winners are pre-seed/seed deep-tech startups with a working prototype, often spun out from universities or research institutes. Archetypes: AI-driven drug discovery platforms (e.g., Peptomyc, Iktos), novel diagnostics, and advanced materials. Named examples from EIC Accelerator portfolio: Peptomyc (cancer therapy), Iktos (AI for drug design), and others in biotech/AI. Cohorts usually include 1-2 biotech companies per cut-off.

A deep-tech startup with a validated proof-of-concept, a clear innovation over existing solutions (e.g., no need for crystal structure), a strong founding team with both scientific and business expertise, and a credible go-to-market plan involving established industry partners. The technology should address a pressing EU challenge (e.g., antimicrobial resistance, cancer drug resistance) and have potential for significant economic and societal impact.
